Public Accountability
   
Medway Community Estates is a joint venture company owned and operated jointly between private sector management and investors, the Dept of Health and NHS Medway. The board of directors ensure the business activities of the company are undertaken with due consideration to probity and are accountable to public scrutiny at all times.

This is monitored and controlled by the legal structure of the company having an independent Chairman and Directors from the Deptartment of Health and NHS Medway.

Since other public sector organisations can use Medway Community Estates within the scope of the public sector procurement process (outlined under “Structure of Medway Community Estates”) a governing body representing all public sector Participants, has been set up called the Strategic Partnering Board.  This board sits quarterly and is chaired by a nominated public sector official. The board ensures that Medway Community Estates operates within the scope of the Strategic Partnering Agreement and has to approve all new contract arrangements between Medway Community Estates and the participants.

Apart form the strict legal processes set out above, Medway Community Estates recognises that it has a duty of care to the population of Medway it serves.  The company regularly undertakes customer satisfaction surveys and participates with NHS consultations where appropriate.

The company has a positive attitude to continuous improvement and strives to provide better value for money to its public sector customers at all times.
